Can you believe it is August already? It’s been a strange year, weather wise. Those of us in nursery and farming businesses sure notice it, and an airplane advertising friend of mine noticed it. We had winter, three weeks of Spring, spaced out a couple of days at a time, and then summer.
We are getting lots of samples of fungus damage on shrubs and trees caused by the cool, wet spring. We’ve also seen lots of fruit drop caused by the sudden change from winter to summer in June. All of this, plus our normal quota of lawn fungus samples. It’s been keeping us busy.
On a more fun note:
We invite you to come in and check out how you can dress up your garden for end of summer gatherings or while just enjoying the evenings out in the yard. We have lots of color to plant in the ground or in containers to dress up patios and entry ways. And don’t forget to replace tired, overgrown or worn out shrubs too. Our Garden Crew can even do the dirty work for you!
If you are enjoying the fresh fruit available this season and are thinking about putting in your own backyard orchard, our 2011-2012 Fruit Tree Order Form is ready, as well as our 2012 Rose Order.
There are a couple new rose varieties that might perk your interest. For well over a hundred years there has been a species rose with a distinctive red blotch that has interested breeders.
Unfortunately it is a spring blooming variety with a open growth habit that could not be tamed or bred to rebloom. About fifteen years ago Jim Sproul made it his goal to succeed where others haven’t.
This year Star Roses is introducing the result of all these years of hard work: two new varieties called Lemonade and Pink Lemonade. They are attractive open flowers that show off the red center, rebloom, and have modern disease resistance - all on an attractive medium sized plant. We have pictures at the front desk to see and are taking pre-season orders at $21.98 each - plus a 10% discount if paid at the time of order.
We hope to see you soon! Happy Gardening!
