In 1948, Sidney Rogers, a sailor by profession, moved to the small California town of Modesto. He and his wife, Mary, were hoping to settle down with their children and they purchased a small parcel of land just outside the city limits to start their new life. Scenic Nursery got it’s name from the small road in front, “Scenic Drive”. Since then Modesto, and Scenic Nursery with it, has grown by leaps and bounds. Today Scenic Nursery is run by Sidney’s son James (also known as “Jungle Jim”).

Scenic Nursery has earned a reputation as one of the finest garden centers in the region. Consistently winning awards for its pleasant, helpful staff, unqiue garden displays, and a wide variety of plant material. Spring weekends are always an event, usually featuring some new activity in the Children’s Garden, at least one gardening seminar, plus all the hustle and bustle that goes along with the Spring season.

Jim is proud of how the nursery has grown: “Customer satisfaction is a matter of honor for us”.

Over the years the nursery has become a landmark in the city. Not just a retailer of quality gardening supplies, the nursery has become a resource for all aspects of gardening, and a gathering place for garden-lovers. Home of the largest garden club in the country, it is Modesto’s vibrant gardening community that makes all this possible.
